Judicial Watch has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Justice seeking all records related to Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old who attempted to assassinate President Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024.
The suit, Judicial Watch Inc. v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:25-cv-02216), comes after the FBI failed to respond to a FOIA request submitted on July 24, 2024. Judicial Watch is requesting a wide range of documents, including investigative reports, interview summaries, photos, videos, interagency communications, and any correspondence between Crooks and FBI officials, contractors, or sources. The request also covers materials from the FBI’s Central Records System and cross-referenced files.
Judicial Watch is seeking the full scope of Crooks’ interactions with the FBI, including any communications through email, text, or encrypted messaging platforms.
