U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon rejected motions from two of President Trump's co-defendants to dismiss charges in the classified documents case.
Trump aide Walt Nauta sought dismissal of five charges, while lawyers for Carlos De Oliveira, Mar-a-Lago's property manager, requested dismissal of all charges against him.
Judge Cannon stated that De Oliveira did not effectively dispute that the charging document meets the minimum pleading standards. She highlighted that his attorneys can contest prosecutors' evidence during the trial, where the Special Counsel will bear the full burden of proof for all essential elements of the obstruction offenses.
Likewise, she rejected the motion from Nauta's lawyers, who claimed that the obstruction charges against him were unconstitutionally vague.
Cannon indicated her general agreement with the Special Counsel that the allegations in the indictment sufficiently justify denying Nauta’s request for dismissal on vagueness grounds.
Cannon also denied requests from both men for bills of particulars, which seek more details about the charges against them and the reasons for the accusations.
