Hunter Biden is being sued by the law firm Winston & Strawn LLP for allegedly failing to pay over $50,000 in legal fees related to multiple federal investigations, including his Delaware gun case. The firm alleges it has suffered financial damages due to Biden’s nonpayment and is seeking a judgment and a lien on his assets.
The complaint, filed Monday in D.C. Superior Court, accuses Biden of breaching a contract he signed in December 2022 for legal representation in criminal matters and congressional investigations. The engagement letter covered representation in DOJ and congressional matters, coordination with other attorneys, and communications strategy. A hearing in the case is set for September 19.
The firm claims it provided “extensive legal services” and devoted significant resources to Biden’s defense, resulting in substantial fees. According to the lawsuit, Biden paid some of the firm’s bills between March 2023 and October 2024 but still owes a “substantial” outstanding amount. Winston & Strawn says Biden never objected to the invoices and has ignored repeated requests for payment.
