FBI agents raided the home of President Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton early Friday morning as part of a high-profile national security probe.
Federal agents arrived to his home in Bethesda, Maryland at 7 a.m. in an operation authorized by FBI Director Kash Patel, according to a Trump administration official. Investigators were also preparing to search Bolton’s office later in the day. Patel wrote on X during the raid, “NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission.”
The investigation centers on classified material allegedly disclosed by Bolton, with officials noting the probe began in 2020, the same year Trump’s Justice Department opened a criminal inquiry into his book The Room Where It Happened. Trump had attempted to block its publication, arguing Bolton violated a nondisclosure agreement and revealed national security secrets, but the book was released despite the objections.
A senior U.S. official said the inquiry was effectively shut down under the Biden administration “for political reasons.” Years of investigation into Bolton’s handling of classified information led to Friday’s raid, the official added.
