FBI co-Deputy Director Andrew Bailey is resigning after about a year in the No. 2 role under Director Kash Patel. Bailey, former Republican Missouri attorney general, said he is leaving to spend more time with his family. His resignation takes effect October 2.
He had been splitting the deputy director duties with Christopher Raia, a former FBI New York field office chief who himself replaced Dan Bongino.
His departure comes three days after the bureau reassigned two senior counterterrorism supervisors over their handling of an investigation into allegedly harassing phone calls made to Katie Miller, the wife of senior White House aide Stephen Miller. The FBI’s official Rapid Response account pushed back Monday against reporting that claimed Bailey was “annoyed” by the recent reassignments. The same reports stated that he had been working on election-related matters.
In a post responding to MS Now’s Ken Dilanian, the bureau stated the claim is false, that Bailey supported those personnel moves, and that his resignation message to the workforce cited family reasons only.
