Italian energy giant Eni has signed a long-term agreement with U.S.-based Venture Global to receive 2 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually, the companies announced Wednesday. The deal marks Eni’s first major U.S. LNG contract and follows Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s commitment to President Trump in April to boost American energy imports as part of broader efforts to strengthen transatlantic trade ties.
The LNG will be sourced from Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass 2 facility in Louisiana, currently under development, with deliveries expected to begin by the end of the decade. Eni said the agreement will aid in diversifying Europe’s gas supply and support the company’s target of reaching 20 million tons per year in contracted LNG volumes by 2030.
