CDC urges all Americans to get updated COVID and flu shots this fall

by | Jun 28, 2024

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a new recommendation for all Americans to receive an updated COVID-19 shot this fall. The guidance applies to everyone aged 6 months and older and aims ‘to protect against potentially serious outcomes of the virus.’

“Our top recommendation for protecting yourself and your loved ones from respiratory illness is to get vaccinated,” CDC Director Mandy Cohen stated. “Make a plan now for you and your family to get both updated flu and COVID vaccines this fall, ahead of the respiratory virus season.”

The CDC advises getting the updated COVID-19 shot regardless of previous vaccination status. Updated vaccines from Moderna, Pfizer, and Novavax are expected to be available later this year.

In addition to the COVID-19 vaccine, the CDC recommends that all Americans aged 6 months and older receive the flu vaccine, claiming it will offer protection against H1N1, H3N2, and a B/Victoria lineage virus.

The CDC also claimed that it is safe to receive the flu and COVID-19 vaccines simultaneously.
