The White House has dismissed requests from House Republicans for Joe Biden to testify in their impeachment inquiry.
Special counsel to the president, Richard Sauber, wrote in a letter to House Intelligence Committee chair James Comer on Monday, describing last month's invitation to the president as a “partisan charade.”
James Comer had requested in a letter for Biden to clarify, under oath, his involvement in his family's businesses.
The Oversight committee obtained bank records indicating that Hunter Biden received $1 million annually for his role on the board of Burisma until Joe Biden's departure from office, when his salary was reduced by half, as stated by Comer. Comer’s letter specifically inquires whether Joe Biden has engaged with executives from Burisma Holdings.
Despite offering testimony in private sessions, Hunter Biden also declined to testify publicly before the committee alongside former business associates Tony Bobulinski and Jason Galanis regarding purported “pay-for-influence” schemes, which allegedly involved providing access to specific offices in exchange for payments to the Biden family.
