The social media platform X will pay President Trump $10 million to settle a lawsuit over the nearly two-year suspension of his account.
X, formerly known as Twitter, banned Trump in January 2021, citing “the risk of further incitement of violence.” In response, Trump sued the platform in July 2021, arguing that the suspension violated his First Amendment rights. A U.S. district judge dismissed the lawsuit in May 2022, but Trump’s lawyers appealed, and the case remained pending until this week.
In November 2022, shortly after Elon Musk acquired Twitter and rebranded it as X, he reinstated Trump’s account.
The settlement follows a similar agreement last month in which Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, paid Trump $25 million to resolve a lawsuit over its suspension of his accounts. His accounts on both platforms were reinstated in 2023.
