UN Security Council Backs US Plan for Gaza Transition

by | Nov 18, 2025

The UN Security Council on Monday approved a US-drafted resolution supporting President Trump’s Gaza plan, clearing it 13–0 with Russia and China abstaining. The measure reinforces the ceasefire that began last month and adds international authority to Trump’s 20-point framework, which he celebrated in a social-media post praising the council’s endorsement of the new “Board of Peace.”

The resolution authorizes the Board of Peace as a transitional governing body, establishes a temporary International Stabilization Force in Gaza, and empowers participating nations to join the mission under UN backing. US Ambassador Michael Waltz said the ISF, composed of a coalition including Muslim-majority nations such as Indonesia and Azerbaijan, will operate under unified command to secure Gaza, oversee demilitarization, protect civilians, and move aid through protected corridors. The board and related international presences are authorized through 2027.

According to the text, the Board of Peace will manage the disarmament of Hamas and other factions and direct Gaza’s reconstruction. It also notes that once Palestinian Authority reforms advance and redevelopment progresses, conditions could allow “a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood,” with the United States opening dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians on a political horizon for long-term coexistence.
