Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal made an unscheduled visit to the White House on Wednesday, arriving just an hour after President Trump issued a social media statement criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
A motorcade bearing Ukrainian flags arrived on Pennsylvania Avenue shortly after 1:15 p.m. and left about an hour later. Ukrainian officials confirmed to the Washington Examiner that Shmyhal was part of the delegation but did not disclose the purpose of the visit.
His appearance in Washington comes ahead of the expected signing of a U.S.-Ukraine minerals agreement.
Just before Shmyhal’s arrival, Trump called Zelenskyy’s recent statement rejecting Russian control over Crimea “very harmful to the Peace Negotiations.”
