Ukrainian MP Calls for Zelensky’s Impeachment After White House Confrontation

by | Feb 28, 2025

Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksandr Dubinsky has called for an emergency parliamentary session to discuss the impeachment of President Volodymyr Zelensky. In a statement posted on his Telegram channel, Dubinsky cited Zelensky’s public humiliation at the White House and Ukraine’s loss of unconditional U.S. support as the final blow to his administration.

“The events of recent hours — Zelensky's public humiliation at the White House, recognition by US President Donald Trump of his diplomatic bankruptcy and Ukraine's loss of unconditional US support — have become the final act of the collapse of the regime. But Zelensky has not just failed international politics — he has brought the country to a state in which everyone who disagrees with his course is subjected to repression. I was thrown into prison not for a crime, but for telling the truth. The very truth that Trump has just told: Zelensky has lost, he has no cards, he is running out of soldiers, and the country is at an impasse because of his stubbornness. I demand the immediate convening of an emergency meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, at which the parliament must decide on the impeachment of Zelensky,” Dubinsky declared

The People’s Deputy accuses Zelensky of:

  • Foreign policy failure, leading to Ukraine’s international isolation and the loss of key allies’ support.
  • Military incompetence, resulting in a lost war due to disastrous leadership decisions.
  • Authoritarian rule, including the suppression of opposition and persecution of dissenters.

I appeal to all people's deputies of Ukraine — do not waste time, stop waiting! Zelensky is bankrupt. It's time to judge him. If he is not able to offer a real way out of the crisis, then it's time for all of us to make fateful decisions, to determine a group for negotiations with the United States. Zelensky is not equal to Ukraine. Zelensky believed that he could rule Ukraine from a position of strength. Now he has lost. Ukraine must decide whether it will continue to fall into the abyss or start fighting for real independence,” the statement from the MP concluded.

Zelensky’s confrontation with Trump at a White House briefing ended with the U.S. president scolding him, issuing an ultimatum, and ultimately showing him the door. The joint press conference was abruptly canceled, and a planned rare minerals deal collapsed.

Dubinsky, still currently jailed on treason charges, has announced his candidacy for the presidency of Ukraine. He made the declaration last week on his Telegram channel.

“To remain silent now means prolonging the war for another five years, until 2030. This is unacceptable,” Dubinsky wrote.
