Trump Revokes Canada’s Invitation to Board of Peace Overseeing Gaza

by | Jan 23, 2026

President Trump has revoked Canada’s invitation to join his Board of Peace, a move that follows tensions with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who recently criticized the U.S. at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Carney delivered a speech to global leaders on Tuesday suggesting the U.S. was at the center of a “rupture” in the world order. Trump responded the next day, addressing Carney directly: “Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements.”

On Truth Social Thursday, Trump formally notified Carney: “Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s joining, what will be, the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled.”

So far, 20 nations have agreed to join the board, including Albania, Argentina, Egypt, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the UAE. No permanent U.N. Security Council members have joined, prompting concerns the board could undermine U.N. efforts.
