President Trump on Wednesday overturned an internal Department of Homeland Security directive that temporarily suspended Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) traffic stops, restoring the enforcement practice just hours after the decision was made.
According to the White House, the memo sent to ICE field office directors on Tuesday was an internal directive that did not reflect broader administration policy and was “quickly overturned.”
News of the reversal came after Trump posted on Truth Social Wednesday morning, praising ICE officers while arguing the agency should not abandon traffic stops, an important immigration enforcement tool.
