President Trump met Sunday with Qatari Amir Tamim Al Thani and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
In a Truth Social post, Trump praised Qatar's leadership, which has been criticized by some Republican lawmakers for hosting Hamas and funding Al Jazeera.
Qatar defends its role, stating that the request to open a Hamas office in Doha came from the U.S., with bipartisan support for its continued operations. The Biden administration has praised Qatar for its mediation efforts in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
In his post, Trump called the Amir “a great and powerful leader,” commending his country’s rapid progress and commitment to peace. He noted their strong relationship during his presidency and predicted an even stronger partnership in the future.
