President Trump has directed federal agencies to waive prior nondisclosure agreements for former government employees and contractors who may have information relevant to investigations into unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAPs.
Under the new process, individuals can come forward through authorized channels, including the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) or the president’s UAP task force, PURSUE.
Officials emphasized that the move is not a blanket declassification order. Instead, former officials and contractors can meet with cleared government representatives, who may waive applicable NDAs and review the information through existing declassification procedures.
The administration said years of congressional inquiries, whistleblower allegations and newly declassified records have raised concerns that some potential witnesses have remained silent because of their previous NDAs.
“We are eliminating that source of reluctance,” a senior administration official said.
Officials said information that sheds light on the UAP mystery will ultimately be made public through the declassification process.
