Trump Administration Suspends USAID Officials Over Classified Material Dispute With Musk’s Team

by | Feb 2, 2025

The Trump administration has placed two senior security officials at the U.S. Agency for International Development on leave after they refused to provide classified material in restricted areas to Elon Musk’s government-inspection teams, a current and a former U.S. official told The Associated Press on Sunday.

Despite the initial resistance, members of Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE, ultimately gained access Saturday to the agency’s classified information, including intelligence reports, according to the former official.

The move follows a similar operation at the Treasury Department just a day earlier, which involved sensitive data, including the Social Security and Medicare customer payment systems.

Musk created DOGE in partnership with the new Trump administration, aiming to identify federal employees for termination, eliminate programs, and reduce government regulations and waste.
