Iran is actively engaging in activities organized under Russia's chairmanship in BRICS, with both countries working towards creating a single currency for the association, according to Ambassador Jalali at a press conference during the “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum.”
As reported by TASS, Jalali noted that Iran, a new member of BRICS, is undertaking significant work within the group.
“The creation of a new single currency within the framework of the association is what Russia and Iran are working on,” Jalali stated. He explained that the United States uses the dollar to impose restrictions, making the use of national currencies in mutual settlements a priority. He highlighted that over 60% of bilateral trade is now conducted in rubles and rials, emphasizing that relations between Russia and Iran are at a “golden stage.”
