The U.S. Embassy in Chișinău announced that a planned high-voltage power line linking Romania and Moldova will be named the “Trump Liberty Line.”
In an X post, the embassy stated that last week the Ministry of Energy, Moldelectrica, Black & Veatch, and the U.S. Embassy Chisinau launched the Strășeni–Gutinaș “Trump Liberty Line” working group. The project is backed by a $130 million U.S. government investment.
It will strengthen Moldova’s energy security and independence, expand opportunities for U.S. businesses and technologies across multiple sectors, and deepen the U.S.-Moldova economic partnership.
According to the embassy’s related statement from September, the project will create significant opportunities for U.S. firms by enabling Moldova to adopt and utilize U.S. technologies. It will unlock potential across transmission infrastructure, grid optimization technologies, information and communication technologies (ICT), nuclear power, and battery storage. When complete, it will increase Moldova’s energy independence by ensuring a reliable electricity supply from European markets.
