Republican presidential nomination contests being held in three different states Saturday

by | Mar 2, 2024

In the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, three more states held contests on Saturday. Both Idaho and Missouri will hold caucuses, and Michigan will hold a party convention to appoint delegates.

To date, Trump has defeated Haley in every state by double digits, inching closer to winning the overall nomination. However, Haley has pledged to keep going until at least Super Tuesday.

After the Idaho state legislature dissolved the primary election in the 2023 session and missed a deadline to reinstate it, the state's Republican State Central Committee voted to decide their 32 delegates through caucuses.

Because the state has two time zones, each county will hold a caucus beginning at either 12:30 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. local time. Voters must show up in person. As a “firehouse caucus,” voting will be done by a secret ballot, with one round of voting rather than multiple rounds.

All delegates for the Republican National Convention will be given to the candidate that receives more than half of the total statewide votes cast.

Republican voters in Missouri will begin county caucuses at 10 a.m. local time, but the state's 54 Republican National Convention delegates will be formally given to candidates on May 4 at the state convention.

To take part in the caucuses, registered voters will be required to present a current, government photo ID.

The party convention on Saturday will allocate Missouri’s delegates for the Republican National Convention, even though Republicans there held a presidential primary election on Tuesday.

At the state party's congressional district caucuses, where party members from across the state gather in groups divided into 13 districts, 39 of the 55 delegates will be awarded.

Three delegates per each congressional district will be awarded.

16 of the party's delegates will be determined by the results of Tuesday's GOP primary, but those will be officially chosen based on a resolution set to be decided at the convention on Saturday.
