President Trump has signed a sweeping executive order on election integrity, implementing new measures aimed at securing the nation’s voting system and enforcing stricter federal election laws.
The order mandates that all voter registration forms require documentary, government-issued proof of U.S. citizenship. It also ties federal election-related funding to state compliance with integrity measures outlined in federal law.
Under the order, the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines 2.0 and security standards for voting equipment will be updated. This includes requiring a voter-verifiable paper ballot record and prohibiting ballots where the counted vote is embedded in a barcode or QR code.
The Attorney General is directed to establish information-sharing agreements with state election officials to identify cases of election fraud or other election law violations. The order also takes action against states that count ballots received after Election Day in federal elections.
The new executive order revokes Biden’s Executive Order 14019, which had transformed federal agencies into Democratic voter turnout centers.
