Donald Trump has requested a judge's approval for a bond to cover the jury verdict against him in E. Jean Carroll’s defamation lawsuit while he pursues an appeal.
In a filing on Friday in federal court in Manhattan, the president stated that he has arranged a bond for $91.6 million, equivalent to 110% of the damage award, to cover the verdict against him last month.
Trump is mandated by law to post the bond to cover the $83.3 million damages award. Typically, courts require the additional amount to suspend a verdict during an appeal, ensuring the availability of funds to compensate the trial winner if the appeal fails.
