President Trump Announces Three-Day Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire

by | May 8, 2026

President Trump announced Thursday that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a three-day ceasefire from May 9 through May 11, which will include a halt to “all kinetic activity” and a prisoner exchange involving 1,000 prisoners from each country.

Trump said the agreement came after a direct request from him and thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for agreeing to the pause in fighting.

“Hopefully, it is the beginning of the end of a very long, deadly, and hard-fought war,” Trump said, adding that negotiations to end the conflict are continuing.
