The Pentagon’s independent watchdog has agreed to a request from top senators to investigate Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and other senior Trump administration officials for using the messaging app Signal to discuss a potential U.S. military strike against Houthi militants in Yemen.

“The objective of this evaluation is to determine the extent to which the Secretary of Defense and other DoD personnel complied with DoD policies and procedures for the use of a commercial messaging application for official business,” acting Inspector General Steven Stebbins wrote in a memo.
