PayPal Unveils ‘Pay With Crypto’ to Slash Fees and Expand Global Access for U.S. Merchants

by | Jul 28, 2025

PayPal announced a major expansion into crypto-powered commerce on Monday with the rollout of its new “Pay with Crypto” system, which will allow U.S. merchants to accept payments in over 100 cryptocurrencies while cutting cross-border transaction fees by as much as 90%.

The new platform enables instant conversions between crypto, stablecoins, and fiat currencies, offering seamless global transactions across wallets like Coinbase, MetaMask, Binance, Kraken, and more. According to PayPal, the tool connects merchants to a growing base of over 650 million crypto users and opens access to a market valued at more than $3 trillion.

CEO Alex Chriss said the system allows businesses to accept crypto, reduce fees, gain near-instant access to proceeds, and even earn 4% interest when holding funds as PYUSD, PayPal’s U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin.

Set to go live for U.S. merchants in the coming weeks, Pay with Crypto features a low transaction rate of 0.99%, which the company says will significantly undercut the high costs of traditional international credit card processing.

The company also revealed a new global partnership—dubbed PayPal World—that brings together five of the world’s largest digital wallets on a single platform. Chriss said the initiative aims to “reimagine how money moves around the world,” supporting the company’s mission to drive what he called “inclusive, borderless commerce.”

The platform covers 90% of the global crypto market and supports major cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), USDT, XRP, BNB, Solana, and USDC.
