Director of the National Counterterrorism Center Joe Kent announced his resignation, stating he could not support the ongoing war in Iran and declaring the decision effective immediately.
In a post on X, Kent wrote, “After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today,” adding, “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”
In an attached resignation letter to President Trump, Kent said Iran “posed no imminent threat” and warned the conflict risks another prolonged Middle East war, urging a reversal in course. He pointed to what he described as coordinated pressure to push the U.S. into war, compared it to the Iraq War, and cited his experience as a combat veteran and Gold Star husband in opposing further involvement, concluding with a call for Trump to reconsider the current path.
