Despite a statement from Democratic leadership expressing opposition to a motion from Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene aimed at removing House Speaker Mike Johnson, she has pledged to continue her efforts.
Greene initiated her motion to vacate in late March following Johnson's endorsement of a $1.2 trillion “minibus” spending package. So far, Kentucky GOP Rep. Thomas Massie and Arizona GOP Rep. Paul Gosar have joined her in the endeavor. On the other hand, Democrats have signaled their intention to counteract the motion.
Arizona GOP Rep. Andy Biggs stated earlier this week that there was no “critical mass” of lawmakers prepared to oust Johnson, although there was “a lot of anger… and frustration.”
Responding to the Democratic statement, Rep. Massie expressed no surprise at the opposition party's stance, remarking, “Hakeem Jeffries vows to save Mike Johnson’s Speakership. Why wouldn’t he? Johnson has given the Democrats everything they want.”
