Letitia James asks judge to reject Trump’s bond

by | Apr 19, 2024

New York State Attorney General Letitia James has urged the judge overseeing President Trump's civil fraud trial to reject his bond, citing concerns over the reported insolvency of the company supporting it.

Earlier this month, James issued a 10-day ultimatum to Trump and Knight Specialty Insurance, the insurer behind his civil fraud case bond, to provide justification for the $175 million surety. As the deadline has now passed, James is pressing for the rejection of the bond.

James is proposing to grant Trump a week to secure a different bond, backed by a more reliable entity.

Judge Engoron is scheduled to hear arguments regarding the validity of the surety on Monday. Trump's hush money trial, which has a complete jury, is slated to begin in New York on the same day.
