Judge denies Trump bid to delay hush money trial due to pretrial publicity

by | Apr 12, 2024

The judge overseeing President Trump's hush money criminal case declined his plea to delay his trial due to publicity surrounding the case.

Trump's legal team contended that the extensive and prejudicial media coverage of the case had inundated the potential jury pool. They argued that this warranted an indefinite postponement of the trial. However, Judge Juan M. Merchan dismissed this argument, stating that such a notion was “not tenable.”

Judge Merchan emphasized that the questioning of prospective jurors would adequately address any concerns regarding their ability to remain fair and impartial in the case.
