Judge Cannon issues CIPA related order in classified documents case

Southern District of Florida

Judge Aileen Cannon submitted a new ruling on Friday allowing Jack Smith to prevent Trump’s legal team from accessing sections of classified information found in discovery.

Cannon has granted Jack Smith's request “to redact, substitute, or delete” entirely in two “categories,” also allowing this for most of another category.

The judge held off from ruling on any remaining requests until issues raised by Trump’s attorneys, based on additional discovery, either have been resolved,  or a follow-up ex parte CIPA hearing with the special counsel has taken place.

Last month, Jack Smith's team submitted three classified supplements to its motion, filed under seal and ex parte.
