On his last day in office, Joe Biden granted pardons to several members of his family, including his brothers James and Francis Biden, his sister Valerie Biden Owens, and their respective spouses.
“My family has endured constant attacks and threats, driven purely by a desire to harm me—the epitome of partisan politics,” Biden said in a statement. “Unfortunately, there’s no indication these attacks will stop.”
Invoking his constitutional authority, Biden announced the pardons, saying, “I am using my constitutional authority to pardon James B. Biden, Sara Jones Biden, Valerie Biden Owens, John T. Owens, and Francis W. Biden.” He emphasized that the pardons should “not be interpreted as an admission of any misconduct, nor should their acceptance imply any admission of guilt.”
