William “Bill” Stevenson, 77, former husband of Jill Biden, was arrested Monday and indicted on first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Linda Stevenson, 64.
New Castle County police in Delaware responded to a domestic dispute at their Wilmington-area home on December 28, 2025. Officers found Linda unresponsive in the living room; she was pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts. Her body underwent autopsy.
After a weeks-long investigation, a grand jury indicted Stevenson on February 2, 2026. He remains in custody at Howard Young Correctional Institution, unable to post $500,000 cash bail. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
Stevenson and Jill (then Jill Tracy Jacobs) married in 1970 when she was 18 and he was 23. They divorced in May 1975 after five years; Jill met Joe Biden shortly before.
