Hunter’s ex-business partner Devon Archer to be resentenced

by | May 15, 2024

Devon Archer, former business partner of Hunter Biden and a cooperating witness in the Biden impeachment inquiry, was granted the opportunity for resentencing on Wednesday after a federal judge ruled that Archer's lawyer provided ineffective counsel by failing to object to an erroneous sentencing guidelines range.

As a close associate of Hunter Biden for years, Archer testified before the Oversight Committee that he observed Hunter introducing his father, either in person or over the phone, to several foreign business partners. These partners included a Russian oligarch, a Chinese fund manager, and executives from a Ukrainian energy company.

In 2018, Devon Archer was convicted of securities fraud and conspiracy to commit securities fraud in a Manhattan federal court, related to a tribal bonds scheme. Jason Galanis, another defendant in the case, later testified before the House Oversight Committee that the fraudulent scheme orchestrated by him and Archer aimed to raise money for a hedge fund involving Hunter Biden, which Joe Biden was expected to join after his vice presidency.

Archer was sentenced in February 2022 to one year and one day in prison. Following an appeal, Archer's legal team contended that he was improperly sentenced based on erroneous guidelines and that his lawyer provided ineffective counsel by failing to object to these errors.
