Grand Jury Subpoenas Comey Advisor Daniel Richman in New Classified-Leak Probe

by | Aug 31, 2026

A federal grand jury on Monday issued a subpoena to Daniel Richman, James Comey’s longtime friend and former adviser, Fox News reported first, citing multiple law enforcement sources. Prosecutors are running a new Justice Department investigation into Comey allegedly leaking classified information to The New York Times.

The same leak matter was probed in Trump’s first term and then shut down after Joe Biden took office. This case sits on top of a separate investigation into Comey’s alleged threats against Trump.

Richman is a law professor and former Comey attorney. He was a central figure in the first leak investigation in 2018. He later sued, saying prosecutors violated his Fourth Amendment rights by seizing material from his electronic devices in 2019 and 2020. A federal judge in Washington, D.C., ruled for him in that case in December 2025. The new subpoena means prosecutors are again pulling Richman into a grand jury over the Comey–Times classified-leak file.
