FBI opens investigation into Baltimore bridge collapse

The FBI has initiated a criminal investigation into the cargo ship that collided with and caused the Francis Scott Key Bridge to collapse in Baltimore last month.

The investigation will focus on whether the crew members were aware of any issues with the ship before departing the port.

The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting a separate investigation into the cause of the crash.

The Dali, a 984-foot-long vessel carrying shipping containers, suffered a “complete blackout” just moments before colliding with the bridge. The ship was under the management of Synergy Marine Group.

Earlier this month, the company from Singapore filed a preemptive filing in the U.S. District Court in Baltimore to limit liability. The filing requested the court to issue an order prohibiting the initiation or continuation of any claims or legal actions against the petitioners except within this specific case. The company also asked the court to determine that the petitioners are not liable for any loss or damage resulting from the incident.
