FBI Cuts Ties With SPLC Over “Hate Map” and Violence

by | Oct 3, 2025

The FBI has officially severed all ties with the Southern Poverty Law Center, which labels conservatives and Christians alongside the KKK on its “hate map”—listings linked to at least one terrorist attack.

FBI Director Kash Patel called the SPLC “a partisan smear machine” whose guidance has “defamed mainstream Americans and even inspired violence.” The bureau confirmed it no longer shares intelligence or engages with the group.

Originally a “civil rights”  law firm, the SPLC later targeted mainstream conservative groups, including Turning Point USA and Family Research Council. Its map has been cited in violent attacks and influenced Big Tech and law enforcement decisions.

Patel criticized the Biden-era FBI for relying on SPLC guidance to target Catholic groups and vowed no politicized outside intelligence will influence the bureau under his leadership. The SPLC has faced multiple scandals, boasts a $700M endowment, and maintains ties to Antifa, recently labeled a domestic terrorist group by President Trump.
