Dr. Anthony Fauci saw his net worth climb from roughly $7.6 million in early 2019 to about $15 million by the end of 2023, according to newly obtained financial records reviewed by the watchdog group Open The Books.
The 141 pages of disclosure documents detail the growth of Fauci’s personal fortune over the course of the pandemic, including what the group described as “during the worst of the draconian COVID lockdowns.”
Fauci, 84, officially exited his decades-long government career on January 6, 2023—later than he previously indicated. While he had told a congressional committee that he stepped down at the end of 2022, his retirement paperwork shows otherwise.
His first year out of government proved particularly profitable. Records show he earned more than $3.5 million in 2023 alone. Before retiring, Fauci held the distinction of being the highest-paid federal employee, earning $480,654 in his final year.
Last week, the White House launched a new covid.gov site promoting the lab leak theory and casting blame on Fauci while backing Trump’s stance on the virus’s origins. The site specifically cites Fauci’s alleged role in encouraging the narrative that COVID-19 emerged naturally rather than from a lab in Wuhan, China.
