The Justice Department has charged 48 foreign nationals with illegally registering to vote or casting ballots in U.S. elections across Nevada, Pennsylvania, California, Florida and New York, according to an exclusive report by The Daily Wire.
All but one of the accused are lawful permanent residents, and one is an illegal immigrant. The cases come as the Trump administration increases efforts to address voter fraud ahead of the November midterm elections.
Among those charged, Cuban national Alfredo Santiesteban, 73, allegedly voted in the 2024 general election. Belize-born lawful permanent resident Omar Alexander Muñoz, 72, allegedly registered to vote in 2019 while claiming to be a U.S. citizen, then voted in 2020, twice in 2022 and again in 2024. He also allegedly lied on his naturalization application. Mexican national Maricela NazarÃn González, 43, allegedly registered in 2020 and voted in 2022, twice in 2024 and again in 2025.
In New York, Irish-born lawful permanent resident Eoin Cranney, 35, allegedly submitted a fraudulent voter registration application and voted in the 2024 federal election. The DOJ said Cranney admitted to federal agents that he was not a U.S. citizen but had registered and knowingly voted in 2024.
Ecuadorian national Maribel del Carmen Garcés Barriga, 62, allegedly registered and voted in 2024 before falsely stating on her citizenship application that she had never registered or voted in a U.S. election.
