Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced the release of long-classified federal records related to the assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, nearly six decades after the 1968 tragedy.
“Nearly 60 years after the tragic assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, the American people will, for the first time, have the opportunity to review the federal government’s investigation thanks to POTUS’s leadership and commitment to maximum transparency,” Gabbard said.
The decision follows through on a longstanding pledge made by President Trump to rebuild trust in the Intelligence Community and federal agencies by declassifying records related to some of the most consequential events in modern American history.
“President Donald J. Trump promised maximum transparency and a commitment to rebuild the trust of the American people in the Intelligence Community (IC) and federal agencies. Part of that promise was to fully release previously-classified records related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy (JFK), Senator Robert F.,” the statement continued.
The newly released documents are expected to shed light on the federal government’s handling of the RFK investigation, likely prompting renewed scrutiny over past conclusions.
