Ahead of former FBI Director James Comey’s arraignment in Virginia, the Justice Department added two assistant U.S. attorneys from the Eastern District of North Carolina to the case.
Comey made his first court appearance Wednesday at 10 a.m. Eastern at the Albert V. Bryan United States Courthouse in the Eastern District of Virginia. The hearing was overseen by District Judge Michael S. Nachmanoff, a Biden appointee, who set the trial date for January 5th. His wife, Patrice, and daughter Maureen were seen waiting outside the courthouse that morning.
Indicted last month by a grand jury that heard evidence from Lindsey Halligan, the new U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Comey pleaded not guilty to charges of making a false statement and obstruction related to his 2020 Senate testimony on the FBI’s Russia hoax investigation.
