House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer has called on President Trump’s Justice Department to investigate and prosecute James Biden, the brother of outgoing President Joe Biden, for allegedly making false statements to Congress.
In a letter to Trump’s attorney general nominee, Pam Bondi, obtained by Fox News, Comer urged the DOJ to hold James Biden accountable for lying to Congress in an effort to protect his brother. Comer cited House Republicans’ June criminal referrals for James and Hunter Biden, which accused them of making false statements about key aspects of the impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden.
According to Comer, James Biden’s alleged false statements directly implicated Biden’s “knowledge and role in his family’s influence-peddling schemes.” He claimed the statements were part of a calculated effort to shield Joe Biden from scrutiny.
Comer, alongside Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan and Ways and Means Committee Chair Jason Smith, led the impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden. Their investigation concluded that Biden engaged in “impeachable conduct,” “abused his office,” and “defrauded the United States to enrich his family.”
In his letter, Comer also criticized Biden’s decision to grant his son, Hunter Biden, a “full and unconditional pardon.” He accused Biden of cementing his legacy as the leader of “the most corrupt political family to attain the presidency in American history.”
Comer reiterated the House’s previous referral of James Biden for prosecution, accusing him of making “materially false statements” to congressional committees. He specifically pointed to James Biden’s denial of Joe Biden’s involvement in a 2017 meeting with Hunter Biden, Tony Bobulinski, and others regarding a Chinese business transaction. Evidence, including text messages from Bobulinski, reportedly contradicted these denials.
Comer alleged that James Biden’s testimony was an attempt to obscure Joe Biden’s involvement in his family’s business dealings. He urged Bondi to act, writing, “No one should be above the law, regardless of his last name.”
Comer also accused Biden of obstructing the impeachment inquiry, labeling it “impeachable conduct” in itself. He further criticized Biden for breaking promises not to pardon his son, calling Biden’s claims of political persecution “specious” and inapplicable to the case of James Biden.
“I write to encourage the Department under your leadership to hold James Biden accountable for lying to Congress to protect his brother,” Comer concluded. “The American people deserve justice.”
