Blanche Clears Key Senate Hurdle After Late Deal with GOP Holdouts

by | Aug 4, 2026

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 12-10 along party lines Tuesday to advance Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s nomination to a full floor vote, likely setting up final approval within days.

Two GOP senators had threatened to block him until he formally killed a $1.8 billion compensation fund. Blanche agreed to rescind the fund in a deal struck late Sunday.
