Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday that his Oval Office meeting with President Trump last week “did not go the way it was supposed to,” calling the outcome regrettable while reaffirming Ukraine’s readiness to negotiate for peace. He added that Ukraine is prepared to sign the mineral agreement “at any time” and in any convenient format.
In a statement on X, Zelensky emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to ending the war, stating that his country is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible. He expressed hope for lasting peace and said his team is prepared to work under Trump’s leadership to achieve it.
Zelensky also voiced frustration over the White House meeting, stating that it was time to “make things right” and that future cooperation should be more constructive. The meeting’s fallout reportedly derailed the signing of a minerals deal between the two countries, which Ukraine remains ready to finalize.
Despite tensions, Zelensky acknowledged past U.S. support, particularly Trump’s provision of Javelin missiles, which he said marked a turning point for Ukraine’s defense.
