A federal grand jury has indicted two Antifa members on terrorism-related charges for a violent July 4 assault on an ICE detention facility in Alvarado, Texas.
The indictment, unsealed Thursday, accuses Cameron Arnold and Zachary Evetts of providing material support for terrorism, attempting to murder federal and assisting officers, and discharging firearms during the attack.
Prosecutors say Arnold and Evetts joined nine others in a coordinated ambush outside the Prairieland Detention Center, using fireworks as a diversion while vandalizing vehicles. When law enforcement responded, Arnold allegedly shouted, “Get to the rifles!” before opening fire on officers, striking one in the neck. The indictment states the wounded officer returned fire before the attackers fled after Arnold’s rifle jammed.
FBI Director Kash Patel described the arrests as historic. “For the first time ever, the FBI has arrested anarchist violent extremists and charged these Antifa-aligned individuals with material support to terrorism,” Patel said. He called the assault a “planned and coordinated terrorist attack” on U.S. officers and confirmed that “over 20 arrests” have been made in connection with the case and related Antifa networks.
The indictment follows President Donald Trump’s recent executive order designating Antifa as a terrorist organization.
