President Trump told the Daily Caller that Israel’s once-powerful influence on Capitol Hill has diminished, saying, “Israel was the strongest lobby I’ve ever seen. They had total control over Congress, and now they don’t.”
In the Oval Office interview, Trump acknowledged growing skepticism among younger Republicans, citing polling that shows support for Israel slipping. “Yeah, I’m aware of it,” he said. “Nobody has done more for Israel than I have… But today, it doesn’t have that strong a lobby. It’s amazing.”
He pointed to the October 7th attacks as a turning point,. “October 7th was a truly horrible day… You have people that deny it ever happened, they’re deniers. You have people that deny the Holocaust ever happened.” He added, “They may be winning the war, but they’re not winning the world of public relations, and it is hurting them.”
Trump reflected on the shift in political climate, saying, “There was a time where if you wanted to be a politician, you couldn’t speak badly. But today, you have AOC plus three and all these lunatics, and they’ve really changed it. If you go back 15 years, probably that’s when it started. Israel was the strongest lobby I’ve ever seen. They had total control over Congress, and now they don’t.”
His remarks come as allies like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene accuse Israel of committing “genocide” in Gaza, and Steve Bannon questions whether Israel is a trustworthy U.S. partner.
