Trump requests Jan. 6 lawsuits be put on hold while fighting criminal charges

by | Mar 20, 2024

President Trump's legal team is seeking to halt at least five civil lawsuits related to January 6, 2021, citing his pending criminal trial.

They argue that proceeding with these lawsuits might compel Trump to disclose his trial strategy prematurely. Additionally, they request that the judge overseeing these lawsuits wait for the Supreme Court's ruling on presidential immunity in Trump's criminal case.

The Supreme Court's review of Trump's argument for absolute presidential immunity from criminal charges has put his criminal case on pause.

Trump’s lawyers argue it would not be uncommon for civil cases to be postponed when a person is facing criminal charges related to the same matter.

The plantiffs suing Trump are set to respond to Trump’s request next week.
