President Trump announced Sunday that Will Scharf will become Assistant to the President and White House Counsel effective September 1, replacing David Warrington.
Trump noted that Scharf previously represented him in numerous cases, including at the Supreme Court, during the Biden Administration’s “corrupt and illegal campaign of Weaponization.”
“Will is Tough, Strong, and Smart! He also loves our Country, and respects the Law,” Trump wrote. “Will Scharf will do a great job as White House Counsel!”
The White House Counsel is the president’s top official legal adviser for the Office of the Presidency. The job typically involves reviewing legislation before the president signs or vetoes it, overseeing the vetting of judicial and senior executive nominees, managing the presidential pardon process, reviewing executive orders and official statements, and coordinating responses to lawsuits and investigations against the president in his official capacity. The office also serves as the main White House liaison with the Department of Justice.
