President-elect Donald Trump announced Wednesday that Peter Navarro will serve as Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing in his upcoming administration.
Trump revealed the appointment in a series of Truth Social posts, noting that Navarro, 75, will focus on advancing and communicating the Trump Manufacturing, Tariff, and Trade Agendas.
Navarro, who previously served as a top trade advisor during Trump’s first term, returns to the spotlight just months after completing a federal prison sentence. He served approximately four months in a Miami facility for defying a congressional subpoena from the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Navarro was convicted on two counts of contempt of Congress. Hunter Biden similarly defied a subpoena from the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability last December, but received no punishment.
