President Trump set off for Israel and Egypt on Sunday to mark the U.S.-brokered ceasefire and hostage deal between Israel and Hamas, calling on regional partners to seize the moment and work toward lasting peace in the Middle East.
After delivering a lengthy address before the Knesset on Monday, where he was met with extended applause, Trump departed Israel aboard Air Force One bound for Sharm el-Sheikh. The Egyptian resort city is hosting a major summit of 20 world leaders, where a signing ceremony for Trump’s peace plan is expected later today.
All 20 surviving hostages held in Gaza have now been freed under the agreement, fulfilling one of its key conditions.
Joining Trump at the summit are Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, among other world leaders.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is also set to attend, in a rare high-level appearance that underscores the significance of the signing ceremony and the renewed push for a lasting peace.
