Several members of President Trump’s National Security Council (NSC) have been dismissed, according to a U.S. official and another source familiar with the situation who spoke to Axios on Thursday.
The dismissals took place just one day after Laura Loomer visited the Oval Office and urged President Trump to remove NSC personnel. Although a direct connection between Loomer’s visit and the firings was not verified, the source familiar described the move as being viewed as an “anti-neocon” action.
According to the U.S. official, Loomer was upset that individuals she labeled as “neocons” had managed to bypass the vetting process for roles within the administration. “She went to the White House yesterday and presented them with her research and evidence,” the official stated. The New York Times initially reported on Loomer’s visit. While the official suspected a link between the visit and the dismissals, they could not confirm it.
The official mentioned that two senior members of the NSC had been fired and described the situation as escalating into a “bloodbath.” Axios is working to verify the identities of those affected. Another source indicated that multiple senior directors were among those dismissed. An NSC spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.
It remains unconfirmed whether the fired individuals had any involvement in a separate controversy regarding the use of Signal and private email accounts by national security adviser Michael Waltz and NSC staff for discussing sensitive topics. During the height of the “Signalgate” scandal, Trump had considered firing Waltz but chose not to, as reported by Axios’ Marc Caputo and Mike Allen.
